As a virtual organisation CHWATE’s status with regard to AI is unique, in effect it doesn’t exist while of course we know it does. Say we buy a Deep Learning machine to solve the world’s water problems, that’s what chwate is for isn’t it? Who among us is an expert able to choose our Deep Learning machine for us and what do you think the first question should be? “Can we make sure everyone in the world has clean healthy water inside their home or close nearby before the end of 2021?” appears too big doesn’t it?
Sorry, Bruce, that's not how deep learning works. It's not "Deep Thought", and it's not "Eliza", the famous apparently-intelligent conversationalist either - thank goodness for that! 😉 No, it's about massaging enormous amounts of data, and about finding and training relevant artificial neural networks using that data, to reveal relationships within that data - a form of statistical research. In a long-term view, history may regard our current "deep [machine] learning" tools as just a step or two beyond brute-force statistics. Long story short, CHWATE doesn't need to spend money (that we don't have, anyway) on specialised computer hardware to do research on massive data. What we do need, is this:
- to have people around the world share information about how they are solving their problems of access to clean, healthy water.
And that is how we'll reach our goal.
I agree. Why don’t you start a separate topic along those lines? I’d be interested to watch the discussion. Thank you for proposing it. I tried to boil your words down into a new topic heading but couldn’t. My best was “talking among us all about the answers we have found“.
I am sure you’ll come up with just the right heading.
Unfortunately I was not good enough in expressing my interest in AI being used to help chwate do its work I’m afraid. I still want to use it because it can do so much for our cause, perhaps you or someone else could put it better?
How's this for a topic heading: "Sharing what works for you"?
We now have 35 members signed into this area which is an advance but with over 7,075 LinkedIn members seeing my postings there I have appealed to them to suggest an alternative forum provider to install in parallel with this one.
Among them are some gifted and eminent people who individually know a lot who in toto form a reservoir of expertise and knowledge which includes at least one A.I. expert who couldn’t help us right now because of important work he has to do but he promised to come back when that was completed.
That said I know there are others.
Whatever forum we choose the new one must be firmly linked with the LinkedIn people we have.
The current www.chwate.org website does not provide that although perhaps it does and I am not smart enough to activate it 🤔
This topic had so much potential. We do need something like it I am certain. Now we have built our numbers and quality what can we say? Better yet it deserves its own name and a separate place.
